Goals: Brisbane Strikers (Musson)

Silver Boot Group B

Wednesday 3rd February 2010

Rochedale's Silver Boot campaign came to a stuttering halt on Wednesday night, with the Brisbane Strikers condemning Rovers to a winless campaign. It was the perfect scenario for Strikers, having seen Capalaba falter in the early game, the pressure was off and they took that care free attitude into the game with some lovely passages of passing.

It wasn't all bad from Rochedale though, with numerous chances created and new signing Steven Unswoth getting 90 minutes under his belt. Unsworth linked well with Terry Hughes going forward and both players were unlucky not to score at various moments through the game.

With no Tabulo or Gray in the side, it also gave chances to a few of the younger brigade, and again they didn't disappoint. Donnachie was strong at the back, winning numerous challenges with his strength and composure. McLean came on and was unlucky not to score in a lovely move involving Unsworth & Hughes, but the youngster was lively throughout his time on the pitch.

In Tabulo's absence Greg Cheshire got his first chance off the bench and was electric down the right hand side, continually outpacing the Strikers left fullback. Although the final ball didn't quite come off for him, you can see the confidence beginning to show in the right winger and it's hoped he takes that sort of form into the season proper.

All in all a disappointing campaign for Rovers, but the silver lining is that three very tough and hard fought matches were played out, which should bode well for the season opener in a little over two weeks. A week off for the first team this before facing Beenleigh in a friendly on the weekend of the 13th and the previously mentioned opening league game on the 20th February.

It's starting to get exciting as we approach the most hotly anticipated Brisbane Premier League season in recent history, make sure you don't miss it!!
