A fantastic second half performance from Rochedale Rovers was enough to overcome a resiliant Brisbane Olympic outfit in the sides Round 12 fixture on Saturday night. On an extremely cold evening Carl Tabulo (pictured) took his season tally to 17 league goals, while youngster James Donachie scored his first league goal for the club.

In a match that hung in the balance at half time, Rochedale's ruthless side shone through with two second half goals in 15 minutes effectively killing off Olympic's resurgence. Reggie Davani scored Olympic's goal, spectacularly firing past Aparicio from long range 5 minutes after half time, but that was as good as it got for the the Yeronga based side.

This fixture, which was originally postponed due to a waterlogged Underwood Park, afforded both sides the chance to get a jump on their rivals who weren't involved in Veto Premier League action this weekend. Rochedale's win has put them 10 points clear of 2nd placed Capalaba, with 12 rounds remaining.

All is not lost for Olympic though, even though a win would have lifted them into 3rd place. As it stands they remain in 5th, only five points behind Capalaba and right in the mix for a high finish come September. They have been on a fantastic run prior to this game and with Taringa next up, few would bet against them returning to winning ways next week.

The only goal of the first half came from Carl Tabulo and was just as Olympic were making inroads into the game. Having been played through on goal, Tabulo rounded Shannon Lancini with ease before rolling the ball into the back of the net to give Rochedale a very handy 1-0 lead 10 minutes from half time.

Olympic came racing out of the blocks after half time though and were duly rewarded when Davani fired in from 20 yards, giving Aparicio in the Rochedale goal no chance. Olympic's tails were up but as they have done so many times this season, Rovers scored almost immediately to restore their lead.

Some fantastic work down the left by the ever hard working Cody Lovell as he beat the right fullback before squaring the ball accross the top of the box. Tim Smits allowed the ball to run accross him and played the ball into the path of Tabulo who planted the ball into the bottom corner to put Rochedale back in front.

James Donachie got his goalscoring record off the mark against Brisbane OlympicBy now Rovers were firing on all cylinders and after another fantastic battle won by Tim Smits, nicking the ball from in front of the defender before cutting it back to Cody Lovell who played the ball inside to young James Donachie (pictured). The seventeen year old was clear of the defence with only Lancini to beat. He set himself with one touch before rifling the ball high into the net with his left foot.

A fantastic finish from a boy with a big future in the game, matched only by his celebration as he sprinted to the small but spirited crowd and being mobbed by team mates at the same time. It was the moment of the match in what was a very entertaining game that the youngster will never forget.

Rovers next assigment is another home game, this time against Mt Gravatt at Underwood Park. Rovers will be hoping to continue with the form which has seen them build such a hefty lead at the head of the table, but you can be sure that the Jeff Hogan coached Mouties will be well up for what is usually an action packed local derby. The match will kick off at 7:00pm at Underwood Park.
