ROUND 15 - KEN'S POST MATCH WRAP (vs Mt Gravatt) Print E-mail
rsv_coach_armstrong_2009.jpgRochedale Assistant Coach Ken Armstrong gives his views of Saturday's derby win against Mt Gravatt which Rovers won 3-2.

Another 3 points gained and another hurdle cleared after our victory over Mount Gravatt on Saturday night. I don't think that the 3-2 scoreline was a true reflection on the nights events but you only have to score one more than the opposition to get the 3 points and that's what we did.

The visitors started with a set up that was designed to stop us playing in their half and we found it difficult to break down in the early exchanges, but we were able to work them out and but for some very very poor finishing we could have at least repeated our 5 goal performance from earlier in the season by half time.

The first half was good from us, we just didn't score and when you are creating as many as we did the signs are obviously positive, so there was no real need to change much, after all when you are creating you either score or you don't.

Mount Gravatt scoring turned out to be a good thing for us although judging by their bizarre celebrations they obviously didn't agree at the time. Mt Gravatt became much more positive after they took the lead and that left more room for us to work in and the three goals we scored came partly because we had extra space.

The second penalty late on made it a bit of a nervous finish and I was happy to hear the final whistle even though I felt we had played well and deserved the points. Congratulations on the improvements Mt Gravatt have made and I'm sure they will continue to pick up important points.

This week we travel to another team heavily involved in the dogfight at the lower end of the table Pine Rivers. Irrespective of where Rivers are on the table and what their results have been like, we always look at this trip as a dangerous one.

Obviously with a new coaching set up things are different for them but I'm sure one thing will be the same, and that is that they will give us a very tough night indeed.

Ken Armstrong
