ROCHEDALE STUN POWER RESURGENCE

Rochedale Rovers and Peninsula Power played out yet another blockbuster at AJ Kelly Park on Saturday evening, with Rochedale eventually having too many match winners in their side and prevailing 4-2.

Rochedale raced into a 2-0 half time lead with goals through John Thompson & Terry Hughes giving Rovers a comfortable lead. Thompson scored at the far post after a Carl Tabulo cross following a corner flew across goal and landed at his feet for the easiest of finishes.

The 2nd followed soon after and it was again an easy finish. Tabulo again played a part, whipping in a free kick that tim Smits directed at goal. The Power goalkeeper Jordan Buchanan spilled the goalbound header and Hughes was on hand to tap home.

Whatever Terry Kirkham said to his Peninsula players at half time worked a treat as within four minutes of the restart they were level. First Steven Cleary capitalised on some confusion in the penalty area between Steven Carter and Mario Aparicio and volleyed home at the far post.

It was then Shaun Feuerriegel to get the leveller, racing on to a pin-point through ball and planting the ball beyond Aparicio in the Rovers goal. 2-2 and it was game on, with both sides going close on numerous ocassions.

Terry Hughes was the gamebreaker, scoring a magnificent goal midway through the second half. Receiving a pin point ball from Chris Burley, Hughes jinked up the bi-line and finished into the roof of the net from an impossible angle.

3-2 and both sides still needed more. Rovers were the team to nab it, as defenders backed away from him, Carl Tabulo lashed the ball home from about 25 yards to kill off the feint hopes Power had of resurrecting the game for the second time.

Rochedale remain 13 points clear of the chasing pack with the visit of Beenleigh in Round 19 next Saturday night. Before that though the A-League's Gold Coast United visit Underwood Park on Tuesday night for a friendly match, kicking off at 7:00pm.
